Pupusa Panic: My Top 5 Foods Don’t Include El Salvador’s National Dish!

Okay, here’s the thing: I love food. I’m a self-proclaimed foodie, always on the hunt for the next delicious adventure. So, naturally, when someone asked me to rank my top five favorite foods of all time, I jumped at the chance. Little did I know, this seemingly harmless task would lead to a potential family crisis in El Salvador!

You see, my family hails from the beautiful country of El Salvador, where pupusas reign supreme. These delicious griddle cakes, filled with savory goodness like beans, cheese, or pork, are a national treasure. They’re not just food; they’re a symbol of culture, tradition, and community.

Now, I love pupusas. They’re truly incredible. But when push came to shove, I had to make some tough choices. My top five list ended up being a mix of global delights, and pupusas, unfortunately, didn’t make the cut. This realization struck me with the force of a thousand exploding volcanoes!

I can already imagine the disappointed faces of my aunts, uncles, and cousins. The gasps of shock. The whispers of, ‘They’ve gone mad!’. It’s like I’ve committed culinary blasphemy, a sin against El Salvador’s culinary heritage.

So, here’s my plea to the world: If you ever find yourself in El Salvador, please, do yourself a favor and indulge in a pupusa. It’s a culinary experience you won’t soon forget. But if you happen to be a friend or family member of mine, please, please, please don’t tell my family in El Salvador that pupusas didn’t make my top five… I’m not sure I could handle the consequences. My heart just can’t take it!
