Purani Dilli 6 may have stumbled out of the gate in the inaugural Delhi Premier League (DPL), but the team is far from down and out. The squad is drawing inspiration from veteran players Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma, both of whom have been instrumental in lifting team morale following their opening loss.
The DPL kicked off on Saturday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, with Purani Dilli 6, captained by Pant, taking on the South Delhi Superstarz. Despite a valiant effort, the team fell short, leaving players feeling the sting of defeat. However, Pant and Sharma, two pillars of Indian cricket, stepped up to offer their guidance and encouragement.
“After the last game, we as a team relooked at what went wrong,” said Lalit Yadav, a key batter for Purani Dilli 6. “We had great conversations with Rishabh and Ishant (bhaiya), it’s a dream come true for many players to share the dressing room with them.”
Yadav, a seasoned T20 player with 82 matches under his belt, recognizes the significance of the DPL for young talent. “The DPL provides a great opportunity for all of us,” he added. “The atmosphere in our team is very positive.”
Pant and Sharma, with their vast experience in the world of cricket, shared their insights and stories with the younger players. “After the match, we had a chat with Rishabh and Ishant bhaiya, and they shared their experience like how they used to play during their young days,” Yadav shared.
Purani Dilli 6 will look to bounce back in their upcoming matches. They will face the East Delhi Riders on Tuesday, followed by a clash against the West Delhi Lions on Wednesday.
The team is determined to make a statement, and with the guidance of their experienced veterans, they are poised to make a strong run in the DPL.
