PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy Drawn in Tough Groups at Paris 2024 Olympics

Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, seeded 10th, will face stiff competition in the Paris 2024 Olympics. She has been drawn in a group with Kristin Kuuba (World Ranking 75) from Estonia and Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq (World Ranking 111) of Maldives.

In the men’s singles, 13th seed HS Prannoy, making his Olympic debut, will compete in Group K against Le Duc Phat (World Ranking 70) of Vietnam and Fabian Roth (World Ranking 82) of Germany. Another first-timer, Lakshya Sen, faces a challenging Group L, where he will play against third seed Jonatan Christie of Indonesia, Kevin Gordon of Guatemala, and Julien Caraggi (World Ranking 52) of Belgium.

The women’s doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa are in Group C alongside fourth seed Nami Matsuyama/Chiharu Shida from Japan. They will also face Tokyo Olympics bronze medalists Kim So Yeong/Kong Hee Yong from South Korea and Australia’s Setyana Mepasa/Angela Yu.

In a surprising development, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) announced the postponement of the men’s doubles draw. This decision was made following a Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) hearing. The BWF has yet to announce a new date for the men’s doubles draw.
