Qobuz, the French music streaming service that rivals Tidal, Apple Music, and Amazon Music with its collection of CD-quality and lossless hi-res audio tracks, has just introduced a student plan. This new plan, dubbed Studio Student, offers a significant 60% discount on the standard individual plan, making it a tempting option for budget-conscious music lovers.
If you’re between the ages of 18 and 25 and enrolled in a recognized educational institution, you can now subscribe to Qobuz’s Studio Student plan for just $5 per month. The plan offers the same access to Qobuz’s impressive catalog of over 100 million tracks as the regular subscription, providing you with a vast library of high-quality music. There’s no commitment to a minimum subscription term, and you can take advantage of a one-month free trial to test the service before committing.
The Studio Student plan is available in every region where Qobuz operates, and the company uses a third-party service to verify student status. The only catch is that you’ll need to sign up through the Qobuz website—the plan isn’t currently accessible through the mobile app.
Once you’ve signed up, your discounted student price will remain in effect for a full year. If you’re still enrolled as a student after that period, you can extend your subscription for another year at the same price. After two years, the Studio Student plan automatically transitions to the standard Studio Solo subscription, and you’ll be billed the regular monthly rate of $13.
As with all Qobuz plans, the Studio Student subscription includes a range of features and benefits. These include access to Qobuz Magazine, which is a treasure trove of news, interviews, opinion pieces, retrospectives, and guides for audiophiles. You can also easily import playlists from other platforms using Soundiiz, explore handpicked featured releases and playlists curated by music experts, and enjoy offline listening for those times when you’re on the go without internet access.
Since Qobuz’s primary appeal lies in its high-quality collection of lossless music, you’ll need to consider the best way to experience this audio fidelity. While very few wireless earbuds or headphones can deliver lossless audio, you can invest in an affordable digital-to-analog converter (DAC) and pair it with a decent set of wired headphones. Alternatively, if your headphones support USB-C audio (like the Beats Studio Pro), you can connect them directly to an Android phone, computer, or an iPhone 15 or later for an immersive listening experience.
