Rabbit Unveils Adorable AI Companion: A Pocket-Sized Gateway to a Virtual World

At CES this January, startup Rabbit unveiled its first device, the Rabbit R1. The company positions it as a pocket companion that connects AI with real-world actions. The device features a 2.88-inch color display, an 8MP camera, and a scroll wheel reminiscent of the Playdate handheld gaming console. Unlike the Humane AI Pin, the Rabbit R1 does not require a monthly subscription fee. Instead, users can connect it to their own cellular service or Wi-Fi. The device also includes a USB-C charging port and a Vision feature that analyzes images and provides information about their content. The Rabbit R1’s personality and playful features, combined with its retro aesthetic, set it apart from its competitors. Rabbit’s founder and CEO, Jesse Lyu, emphasized the device’s future roadmap, including features like an alarm, calendar, contacts app, GPS support, memory recall, and more. The company has already sold more than 100,000 units this quarter and is poised for continued success. While the usefulness of AI devices remains a point of debate, the Rabbit R1’s affordability, versatility, and charming design make it an intriguing option for those curious about exploring the potential of AI in everyday life.
