Raccoon Knocks Out Power to St. Paul Electrical Substation

The perpetrator behind the weekend power outage in St. Paul has been revealed: a masked bandit of the wild, the cunning raccoon.

Xcel Energy reported that the outage occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday and was caused by the curious critter exploring a substation. Xcel crews responded promptly, and power was restored just over an hour later.

Although there is no official update on the raccoon’s condition, the chances of it emerging unscathed are slim. Similar incidents involving raccoons and electrical substations have often resulted in the animal’s demise due to the high voltage present.

While the raccoon’s escapade left a temporary mark on downtown St. Paul, it serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature that often interplays with everyday life.
