Once hailed as one of India’s most promising all-rounders, Radha Yadav faced a setback when she was dropped from the national team in early 2023 due to a slump in form. However, her determination and consistent performances in two editions of the Women’s Premiere League (WPL) and the domestic circuit earned her a well-deserved recall after a 13-month hiatus. In the recently concluded T20 series against Bangladesh, Yadav seized the opportunity to shine, emerging as the most successful bowler with 10 wickets in five matches and earning the Player of the Series accolade. Her exceptional contribution played a crucial role in India’s comprehensive 5-0 whitewash of the hosts in Sylhet. In the final T20I, India’s victory was orchestrated by a stellar bowling performance led by Yadav, who claimed three wickets for 24 runs, ably supported by leg-spinner Asha Sobhana, who bagged two wickets for 25 runs. India’s batting lineup also displayed impressive form, with Dayalan Hemalatha scoring a fiery 28-ball 37, Smriti Mandhana contributing a solid 25-ball 33, and captain Harmanpreet Kaur chipping in with a 24-ball 30. The innings was capped off by an unbeaten 17-ball 28 from Richa Ghosh, propelling India to a formidable total of 156/5. In response, Bangladesh managed to score 135/6 in 50 overs, with Ritu Moni (33 off 33 balls) and Shorifa Khatun (28* off 21 balls) offering some resistance. Yadav’s crucial double strike in one over, dismissing captain Nigar Sultana and Rubya Haider, proved to be a turning point in the match, firmly establishing India’s dominance. Reflecting on her performance at the post-match presentation ceremony, Yadav emphasized her focus on bowling with accuracy and her commitment to physical fitness. She also acknowledged the positive impact of the WPL on women’s cricket and expressed her eagerness to see players from Bangladesh participate in the tournament. The T20 series triumph has provided a significant boost to India’s confidence ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will be hosted by Bangladesh from October 3 to 20. The team’s ability to adapt to the local conditions and execute their plans effectively will be crucial in their quest for success on the global stage.
