Rafael Devers, the Boston Red Sox’ star third baseman, has returned to the team’s lineup as the designated hitter in Wednesday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians. Devers has been sidelined for nine of the Red Sox’ 12 games since April 11 due to nagging shoulder and knee issues. He’s hitting .188 with two homers, three doubles and a .703 OPS in 58 plate appearances this season. With Devers at DH, Masataka Yoshida is out of the lineup for the third straight day. Tyler O’Neill is back in left field after returning from a week-long absence as the DH Tuesday. Jarren Duran and Wilyer Abreu are also starting in the outfield, and Rob Refsnyder is sitting. Pablo Reyes is at third base in Devers’ spot, and Connor Wong is catching. Righty Cooper Criswell is on the mound for the Sox, making his second start of the year. Veteran righty Carlos Carrasco pitches for Cleveland. The Red Sox have dropped four of five games to the Guardians so far in the season series, which concludes Thursday at Progressive Field. Boston is 10-4 on the road this year and 3-7 at home. Wednesday’s first pitch is at 6:10 p.m. ET.
