A heartwarming display of political camaraderie unfolded on social media as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi extended a playful invitation to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. The invitation came after a video of Stalin enjoying a leisurely bike ride along Chicago’s shoreline went viral. The DMK president was on a US tour to attract investments for Tamil Nadu.
Gandhi, sharing Stalin’s video on X (formerly Twitter), addressed him as ‘brother’ and wrote, “Brother, when are we cycling together in Chennai?” Stalin responded with equal enthusiasm, saying, “Dear brother @RahulGandhi, whenever you’re free, let’s ride and explore the heart of Chennai together!” The playful banter didn’t stop there. Stalin also reminded Gandhi of a “box of sweets” that was “still pending” from his side, and extended a warm invitation to his home for a “delicious South Indian lunch.”
The ‘box of sweets’ comment was a lighthearted reference to an earlier exchange between the two leaders. In June, Gandhi had thanked Stalin for birthday wishes and jokingly remarked that he was waiting for ‘his box of sweets.’
The camaraderie between Gandhi and Stalin is well-known and has been evident on several occasions. Earlier this year, during the hectic electioneering in Tamil Nadu, Gandhi had bought sweets from a shop in Coimbatore and presented them to the Dravidian party chief.
The recent exchange between the two leaders has sparked a wave of positive sentiment on social media, highlighting the amiable relationship between these prominent political figures. It remains to be seen when and where their promised cycling adventure will take place, but the exchange certainly added a touch of warmth and humor to the political landscape.
