The Commanders have made it clear, both publicly and privately, that they have no intention of trading away the No. 2 overall pick in this week’s NFL Draft. Despite this, reports have emerged revealing that the Las Vegas Raiders were among the teams that reached out to the Commanders to inquire about a potential trade for the top selection. Notably, this inquiry occurred after Raiders general manager Mike Mayock stated during his pre-draft press conference that the team was not inclined to make a deal. The Raiders currently possess the No. 13 overall pick in the first round. The fact that the Raiders expressed interest in moving up to the No. 2 spot indicates that the team is willing to potentially trade with another team in the top 10, provided that their desired quarterback remains available. During his pre-draft press conference on Monday, Raiders general manager Tom Telesco emphasized that the team has a strategy in place to ascend in the draft order should the need arise and regarding the first-round pick. However, despite the Raiders’ assertiveness, their efforts have fallen short of persuading the Commanders to deviate from their current plan, which appears to involve drafting a quarterback for their own team.
