Raireshwar: Inspiring Journey of Polling Agents for the Highest Polling Station

The Election Commission (EC) successfully conducted voting for 160 voters at Raireshwar Fort, the highest polling booth in the Baramati constituency during the third phase of Lok Sabha polls on May 7. With great determination, election staff and officers trudged up iron stairs to the fort, carrying essential voting machinery, including Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), control units, and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) devices, to ensure a smooth voting process for all eligible voters. Raireshwar is a hill fort of historical significance, standing at an impressive height of 4,505 feet above sea level, according to Maharashtra Tourism. The Baramati constituency encompasses six assembly seats: Indapur, Baramati, Purandar, Bhor, Khadakwasla, and Daund.

However, it is important to note that the distinction of having the highest polling station in India belongs to Tashigang Village in Himachal Pradesh, situated at a remarkable altitude of 15,256 feet. As reported by Hindustan Times in 2019, Tashigang is approximately 29 km from the India-China border and serves two villages, Tashigang and Gete, with a total of 48 voters, comprising 30 men and 18 women, as per the revised electoral rolls. Tashigang also holds the distinction of being the highest village in Spiti Valley, further highlighting the challenges faced by election officials in ensuring that every citizen has the opportunity to exercise their democratic right to vote, regardless of geographical barriers.
