Rajkummar Rao, known for his roles in critically acclaimed films, has shared a chilling encounter from the set of the popular horror-comedy ‘Stree’. During a recent interview, the actor recalled an unusual photograph taken during a night shoot for the 2018 film. The photo, captured on an abandoned street in Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, allegedly shows a shadowy figure sitting on a balcony.
The crew had been warned by locals about the street’s haunted reputation, but they decided to film there due to its suitability for the scene. The actor described the photo, saying, “A night shoot was underway and I had a shot where I was walking through the lane…and he was randomly clicking photos. And one photo he clicked…he showed me once the shoot got over. I was wondering what was there and then he zoomed in. The fort had an old wall with a slight balcony. And within it you can clearly see a shadowy figure just sitting there at 2:45 am with no face.”
Director Amar Kaushik has previously spoken about facing numerous difficulties during the shoot, including flickering lights and broken bulbs. These unexpected technical issues, coupled with the local warnings, created an eerie atmosphere on set.
Despite the supernatural events, ‘Stree’ became a box office hit, grossing ₹ 204 crore in its first four days of release. The film’s success led to a sequel, ‘Stree 2’, which further cemented the franchise’s popularity, earning a whopping ₹ 283 crore globally in its opening weekend. ‘Stree 2’ follows the same group of friends, now facing a new terror in the form of a ghost known as Sarkata, who only has a head. The film is part of a larger horror comedy universe created by producer Dinesh Vijan, which also includes movies like ‘Bhediya’ and ‘Munjya’.
Rajkummar Rao’s account of the shadowy figure adds an intriguing layer to the ‘Stree’ franchise, fueling the debate about the supernatural and leaving fans to ponder whether the film’s success is merely a coincidence or something more mysterious.
