German coach Ralf Rangnick is reportedly the frontrunner to become the next manager of Bayern Munich. The Bavarian giants are searching for a new boss with Thomas Tuchel departing once the season ends, having relinquished their Bundesliga crown for the first time in 11 years.
Rangnick is highly regarded in Germany, having led several clubs and pioneered coaching philosophies that have influenced the country’s football landscape. Despite a difficult stint at Manchester United, he remains in contention for the Bayern job, according to reports.
Bayern had initially targeted Xabi Alonso, who recently led Bayer Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title, but he opted to stay with the club. Julian Nagelsmann was also considered, but he remains the German national team manager.
With these options unavailable, Bayern turned their attention to Rangnick, who is currently in charge of Austria and will lead them into the Euros this summer. Rangnick has previously expressed his commitment to Austria until 2026, but he could be tempted by the opportunity to manage Bayern Munich if offered the role.
Sporting director Max Eberl has compiled a shortlist of candidates and aims to make a decision promptly. Bayern Munich’s Champions League campaign remains alive, as they face Real Madrid in the semi-finals, with the final scheduled to take place at Wembley.
