Range Rover Goes All-Electric: A Luxurious, Off-Road Revolution

Range Rover, the renowned brand synonymous with British-designed, luxurious all-terrain SUVs, is making a significant shift towards an electric future. The company, a subsidiary of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), has witnessed a surge in demand for their hybrid vehicles, with a 29% increase in sales over the past six months. This growing popularity of hybrid models, according to JLR, is a clear indicator of customer readiness for fully electric vehicles.

In a testament to this evolving market, Range Rover has already secured 48,000 pre-orders for its first fully electric vehicle, the Range Rover Electric, slated for launch before the end of the year. This innovative SUV boasts an 8000-volt architecture, promising rapid charging speeds while maintaining the brand’s legendary off-road capabilities. The Range Rover Electric will be able to navigate water depths of up to 33.4 inches, ensuring its prowess in challenging terrain.

JLR’s commitment to electrification extends beyond the Range Rover Electric. The company plans to launch an electric version of the Range Rover Sport in 2024, leveraging the same platform as the Range Rover Electric and its existing hybrid models. To further solidify its electric ambitions, JLR has introduced a new platform specifically designed for electric vehicles, paving the way for future EV models.

The automaker has set an ambitious goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2039. “JLR is able to offer a range of fuel options to meet the energy transition dynamics of each market, and we will offer a pure electric variant of each nameplate by 2030 with the aim of reaching carbon net zero by 2039,” stated Mark Camilleri, director of electrification services at JLR.

Further evidence of JLR’s dedication to electrification is the development of a smaller Range Rover SUV, built on the new EMA platform, scheduled for release in 2026. This new SUV is expected to be the electric successor to the Range Rover Velar, according to AutoCar. It will also be the first EV to feature “hands-free, eyes on” technology, ushering in a new era of driver assistance and convenience.

The move towards electrification by Range Rover is a significant development in the luxury SUV market. With its strong brand recognition, innovative technology, and commitment to sustainability, Range Rover is positioned to become a leading player in the growing electric vehicle segment, catering to discerning customers who seek both luxury and responsible mobility.
