Rape Accused Attempts Suicide to Evade Arrest in Madhya Pradesh

In a shocking incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Harda district, a rape accused attempted suicide to evade arrest after a massive manhunt was launched by the police. The accused, identified as Sunil Korku, a 22-year-old man, was accused of raping a five-year-old girl.

The police launched a comprehensive search operation on September 23, involving over 200 police personnel, more than 500 local residents, and a drone equipped with night vision technology. This extensive search spanned across three districts – Harda, Khandwa, and Betul, covering a vast area of nearly 250 square kilometers.

After five days of relentless pursuit, the police finally apprehended Korku on Sunday morning near the Mohanpura area of Betul. Korku had been constantly on the move, throwing away his phone and navigating through fields and forests, determined to escape capture.

The police official, Harda Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinav Chouksey, revealed that Korku had consumed pesticide in a suicide attempt after finding a bottle in a field. He was immediately hospitalized.

The incident occurred on September 23 when the five-year-old survivor was found near a river in the jurisdiction of Sirali police station. A medical examination confirmed the sexual assault, leading to the filing of a case. A reward of ₹10,000 was offered for information leading to Korku’s arrest.

This case highlights the urgent need to address child abuse and the complexities of apprehending perpetrators who go to great lengths to evade justice. The extensive manhunt and the accused’s desperate attempt to escape serve as a stark reminder of the seriousness of these crimes and the importance of swift and decisive action.
