Coventry City players were left unimpressed by Marcus Rashford’s performance during their FA Cup semi-final match against Manchester United. The England international, who was substituted shortly before full-time to boos from the crowd, was deemed to have faded out of the game in the second half.
According to Coventry players, Rashford could have been more involved in the match and was easily marginalized by the opposition. They expressed sympathy with United fans who have witnessed his decline in form and his recent disciplinary issues.
Rashford’s future at United is now in doubt. His relationship with the club’s supporters seems to be fractured, and his dwindling form has raised concerns. The 26-year-old has scored only eight goals this season, a sharp decline from the 30 he netted last term.
Manager Erik ten Hag has already disciplined Rashford for attending a party hours after United’s defeat to Manchester City in October and for going on a bender in Belfast before the team’s game against Newport County in January.
Rashford’s struggles have been reflected in United’s overall performance. The club is currently seventh in the Premier League, 16 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa. They have already lost 12 games this season, their worst tally in the Premier League era.
United’s defense of the League Cup ended with a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Newcastle, and they were eliminated from all European competitions after finishing bottom of their Champions League group. The FA Cup final on May 25 against Manchester City could be their only chance of silverware this season, but they will be firm underdogs against their rivals.
