England’s spin maestro Adil Rashid and the reliable pacer Chris Jordan etched their names in T20 World Cup history during the semifinal clash against India at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday. The duo became the joint highest wicket-takers for England in the tournament, each reaching a remarkable milestone of 31 wickets.
Rashid surpassed veteran fast bowler Stuart Broad, who previously held the record, when he clean bowled India’s captain Rohit Sharma. This wicket marked Rashid’s 31st in just 30 matches, making his achievement even more impressive. His best bowling figures stand at an impressive four for two wickets.
Not to be outdone, Jordan, who started the match with 28 wickets, added three more to his tally, equaling Rashid’s record. Jordan first dismissed the dangerous Hardik Pandya for 23 runs before sending Shivam Dube back to the pavilion for a golden duck with back-to-back wickets in the 18th over. He then added a third victim in his third over by dismissing Axar Patel, solidifying his place as one of England’s most consistent performers in the T20 World Cup.
With 30 wickets in 26 matches, Broad now stands third on the list of England’s highest wicket-takers in the tournament. The record-breaking performance of Rashid and Jordan showcased their exceptional skills and contributions to England’s success in the T20 World Cup.
