Ray-Ban Meta Glasses Get a Hands-Free Facebook Story Sharing Update

Meta’s Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses have received a significant update, jumping from version 7.0 to 8.0. While this might seem like a substantial jump in version numbers, the update focuses on a key new feature: hands-free Facebook story sharing. Now, users can effortlessly share photos directly to their Facebook stories without needing to touch their glasses. This capability is made possible by a new integration with the Meta View app, which requires connecting your Facebook account. Once linked, you can simply say “Hey, Meta, share a photo to my Facebook Story” to share what you’re seeing in real-time. For previously captured images, you can say “Hey, Meta, share my last photo to Facebook.”

Beyond the exciting new feature, the update also includes the usual suite of bug fixes and performance enhancements to ensure a smoother user experience.

A noteworthy addition to the update is an enhanced security feature. Users can now enable an auto-lock function for their contacts. This means that if someone else picks up your glasses, they won’t be able to make calls, send messages, listen to incoming messages, or share photos and videos without first unlocking your phone. This feature, similar to Apple’s approach with the Apple Watch, provides an extra layer of security and privacy. It’s important to note that enabling auto-lock might slightly impact the battery life of your glasses.

The new update to Ray-Ban Meta Stories demonstrates Meta’s commitment to enhancing the user experience and integrating their smart glasses seamlessly with their social media platform. The hands-free Facebook story sharing feature offers a convenient way for users to share their experiences in the moment, while the enhanced security measures provide greater control and peace of mind.
