RBI Deputy Governor T. Rabi Sankar’s Term Extended by a Year

The government has extended the term of RBI Deputy Governor T. Rabi Sankar by one year. From May 3, 2024, Sankar’s tenure will be extended for another year. In May 2021, he was appointed as the RBI’s Deputy Governor for a three-year period. Sankar joined the RBI in 1990 and has held several positions within the central bank, including Executive Director. Prior to his elevation as Deputy Governor, he was responsible for the RBI’s Department of Payment and Settlement Systems, Department of Information Technology, Fintech, and Risk Monitoring Department. From 2005 to 2011, he also served as an IMF Consultant on the development of government bond markets and debt management. Sankar is currently Chairman of the Indian Financial Technology and Allied Services (IFTAS), a member of the Board of Directors of ReBIT, and a member of the Governing Council of IDRBT. He holds a Master of Philosophy in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University.
