Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) abysmal performance in IPL 2024 continued as they suffered a heartbreaking one-run defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, extending their losing streak to seven matches out of eight. Their dismal performance has left them languishing at the bottom of the points table.
Despite the franchise’s loyal fan base and a stellar roster of big-name players, RCB has consistently fallen short in their quest for a championship trophy. Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa has urged RCB to rectify the situation by repatriating some of the impactful players they have released in the past, starting with star leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.
Uthappa’s Recommendations for RCB
In the Ranveer Show Podcast, Uthappa expressed his conviction that re-signing Chahal should be their top priority. He stated, “I would do anything to bring Yuzi back from RR. I would go through hell and high water to make amends with him.” Additionally, he suggested bringing back Harshal Patel and preparing wickets that favor bowlers.
Uthappa praised RCB’s batting lineup, which includes Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Dinesh Karthik, but pointed out the team’s weakness in bowling. He highlighted the fact that RCB has had a history of releasing star bowlers, citing examples such as Chahal, Shivam Dube, and Devdutt Padikkal, who have gone on to succeed with other franchises.
Uthappa emphasized the need for RCB to retain their key players and break the cycle of losing talented players. He also called for an increase in investment in their bowling and middle-order, as well as a sustained level of faith in the players. Uthappa observed that RCB had fielded a significant number of players (around 25) during the current IPL season, suggesting a lack of stability and depth within the team.
