“Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver” had a brief reign at the top of Netflix’s Top 10 movies list, but its dominance has been short-lived. The highly anticipated sequel has been overtaken by the romantic comedy juggernaut “Anyone But You,” starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell.
Despite topping the Global Top 10 list for the week of April 15 through April 21, “Rebel Moon Part 2″‘s viewership fell short of expectations. With only 21 million views, it significantly trailed the 34 million views garnered by “Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire” upon its release in January 2024. This has raised concerns about the sequel’s overall performance, especially considering director Zack Snyder’s previous estimate that Part 1 eventually reached 80-90 million views.
Nevertheless, the arrival of Part 2 did boost the viewership of Part 1, which re-entered the Top 10 charts as viewers sought to refresh their memories or experience the first installment before diving into the sequel.
It’s worth noting that Snyder has six more hours of “Rebel Moon” content in the pipeline, consisting of two three-hour cuts of the existing films with R-rated elements. Snyder has described these extended versions as practically new films, although it remains to be seen how they will fare with audiences.
Meanwhile, “Anyone But You” appears to have cemented its position in the top spot for the foreseeable future. It dominated the paid digital charts upon its release on platforms like Amazon and is now enjoying a surge in popularity on Netflix. The film’s success is largely attributed to the star power of Sweeney and Powell, as well as its relatable and entertaining storyline.
