U.K. Edition of ‘Rebel Rising’ Redacted for Legal Reasons
The U.K. edition of Rebel Wilson’s memoir, ‘Rebel Rising,’ has been published with redacted passages concerning Sacha Baron Cohen, as confirmed by The Guardian. The offending chapter, titled ‘Sacha Baron Cohen and Other Assholes,’ has three lines left intact, while the remainder has been blacked out. Several other lines within the chapter have also been redacted.
HarperCollins, the publisher of the book, stated that the redactions were made for legal reasons and constitute a small portion of a larger narrative. The U.K. edition was initially scheduled for release on April 4 but was delayed until April 25 to align with Wilson’s press tour.
Australian and New Zealand Editions Also Redacted
The publication of ‘Rebel Rising’ has also been postponed in Australia and New Zealand, where HarperCollins Australia has removed the entire chapter on Baron Cohen. The publisher explained that the redaction was necessary for legal reasons and that the chapter represents a small part of Wilson’s broader story.
Baron Cohen’s Representatives Deny Allegations
Representatives for Sacha Baron Cohen have denounced HarperCollins for failing to fact-check Wilson’s allegations prior to publication. They assert that the claims are false and contradicted by evidence, including documents, footage, and eyewitness accounts. They view the redactions as a belated attempt to avoid legal repercussions.
Wilson Maintains Her Account
In a previous interview with The Sunday Times, Wilson reiterated her allegations against Baron Cohen, stating that she felt disrespected on set but feared being labeled a troublemaker if she spoke out. She criticized the costuming choices for her character, claiming they were designed to accentuate her size and humiliate her.
Wilson Continues Book Tour Amidst Controversy
Despite the redactions, Rebel Wilson is continuing her book tour in the U.K., with upcoming appearances scheduled in Manchester and London.
