Redmagic 9S Pro Debuts with Overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 ‘Leading Version’

Redmagic has unveiled the global version of its Redmagic 9S Pro gaming smartphone, featuring a processor that might catch your attention. It’s the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but with a twist—it’s the “Leading Version.” This isn’t just a marketing term; Redmagic has effectively overclocked the already powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Interestingly, this overclocked version is reminiscent of the specially tuned Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy found in Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series and the new Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 foldable phones. The ‘Leading Version’ of the chip pushes the CPU clock speed from 3.3GHz to 3.4GHz and the Adreno 750 GPU’s clock speed from 900MHz to 1GHz. This unique processor is the primary differentiator between the Redmagic 9S Pro and the Redmagic 9 Pro, which launched earlier this year with a standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Redmagic employed a similar strategy with the Redmagic 8 Pro, upgrading the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Leading Version for the Redmagic 8S Pro. Beyond the processor, the Redmagic 9S Pro also showcases several other upgrades. To handle the increased performance of the overclocked chipset, the cooling system has been enhanced with a new cooling gel and different materials, resulting in a 20% efficiency improvement, according to Redmagic. The phone’s design has undergone subtle changes, including a new backlight and shoulder button lighting system. The Redmagic OS 9.5 interface also presents a few refinements over Android 14. It includes interactive wallpapers where you can play classic games like Tetris and Snake without unlocking the device, along with customization features appealing to gamers, like the ability to force an aspect ratio or screen orientation change. Despite these enhancements, features such as the screen, battery and charging capabilities, headphone jack, weight, and dimensions remain identical to the Redmagic 9 Pro. The Redmagic 9S Pro is available internationally in four color options. The Sleet and Frost versions, featuring 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space, are priced at $649. Meanwhile, the Snowfall and Cyclone models, boasting 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage space, come in at $799.
