On Sunday afternoon, a fire broke out near Regina Beach, Saskatchewan, causing significant damage to the area. The fire has since been extinguished, and no injuries to people or livestock have been reported.
Volunteer firefighters from Regina Beach, Lumsden, and Bethune quickly responded to the scene south of the town. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
Firefighters worked diligently to contain the blaze, and residents pitched in with buckets of water and by mowing grass to prevent the fire from spreading further.
“People put everything else aside when something like this happens and make sure that they’re covering off land and everyone is as safe as possible,” said Mike Thorley, chief administrative officer at Regina Beach.
Thorley praised both the fire department and the community for their efforts. “It’s a huge part of it and I think it would happen anywhere. If it was northern Saskatchewan or anywhere else, I think it would happen and that’s just the Saskatchewan way, I really do believe that.”
