Reliance Industries Limited, the company headed by Mukesh Ambani, has continued its impressive climb on the Fortune Global 500 list, rising two spots to secure the 86th position. This achievement underscores the company’s robust performance over the past three years, as it has leaped 69 places from its 155th ranking in 2021. Notably, among all Indian companies, Reliance Industries holds the top spot on the prestigious Fortune Global 500 list.
Reliance Industries has been a consistent presence on the Fortune Global 500 list for the past 21 years, a feat unmatched by any other Indian company. According to Fortune, Reliance’s revenue stands at a substantial $108,877 million, with profits showing a 1.3% increase to $8,412 million. This success is attributed to the hard work of approximately 350,000 employees who contribute to Reliance’s growth.
The 2024 Fortune Global 500 list features nine Indian companies, with five representing the public sector. Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), the leading insurance company, has climbed 12 spots to secure the 95th position. Meanwhile, the public sector giant Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) experienced a slight decline, slipping 22 places to 116th position. State Bank of India (SBI) made a significant leap, rising 57 spots to 178th position.
Other notable Indian companies on the list include Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL), which dropped 22 and 25 places respectively, ranking 180th and 258th. Tata Motors climbed 66 places to 271st, while HDFC Bank is at 306th, and Rajesh Exports is at 463rd in the list.
The top three positions on the Fortune Global 500 list are occupied by Walmart, Amazon, and State Grid. Other prominent companies in the top 100 include Apple, Toyota Motors, Alphabet, Samsung, and Meta Platforms.
