Reliance Jio Leads Global Mobile Operator Rankings in Data Traffic

Reliance Jio has emerged as the world’s largest mobile operator in terms of data traffic, surpassing China Mobile, according to Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani. This significant achievement was revealed during the company’s quarterly results announcement on Monday. The total traffic on the Jio network has reached 40.9 Exabytes, a remarkable 35.2 percent increase year-on-year. Furthermore, Jio’s subscriber base stands at an impressive 481.8 million.

Mukesh Ambani expressed his satisfaction with Jio’s success, emphasizing the company’s contributions to the growth of various sectors in the Indian economy. He highlighted that all segments within Reliance Industries have demonstrated robust financial and operating performance, helping the company achieve multiple milestones. Notably, Reliance became the first Indian company to surpass the ₹ 100,000-crore threshold in pre-tax profits.

Jio has played a pivotal role in India’s digital transformation, leading the transition from 2G to 5G and contributing to the growth of smartphone and internet usage. This has resulted in an increased reliance on digital connectivity, as evidenced by the dramatic 2.4-fold increase in annual data traffic since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the surge in monthly per capita data usage from 13.3 GB to 28.7 GB in the past three years.

Jio’s success is further exemplified by its becoming the first Indian company to cross the ₹ 100,000-crore mark in pre-tax profits.
