Reliance Jio, India’s leading telecom giant and the company that revolutionized smartphone usage in the country, has made several significant announcements. Earlier this month, the company announced price increases for most of its prepaid plans and the discontinuation of plans that bundled access to popular OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime. However, Jio is now reintroducing some of these plans, offering users a way to stream their favorite content while staying connected.
One of the new plans, priced at Rs 329, offers 1.5GB of data daily, 100 SMS per day, unlimited voice calls, and access to JioSaavn Pro, with a 28-day validity period. Another plan, priced at Rs 949, provides 2GB of data per day, 100 SMS per day, unlimited voice calls, and a 90-day Disney+ Hotstar subscription, valid for 84 days. The Rs 1,049 plan offers similar features, including 2GB of data, 100 SMS per day, unlimited voice calls, and an 84-day validity, but instead of Disney+ Hotstar, it provides access to Sony LIV and ZEE5. All these plans also include access to JioTV, JioCloud, and JioCinema.
In addition to the new plans, Reliance Jio has launched the JioBharat J1 4G feature phone, aimed at expanding connectivity to a wider audience. This feature phone, priced at Rs 1,799 on Amazon, boasts a 2.8-inch display, a 2,500mAh battery, and the ability to run essential apps like JioChat, JioTV, JioSaavn, JioPay for UPI transactions, and JioPhotos. The JioBharat J1 runs on the ThreadX RTOS and features a single SIM slot compatible with Jio and a microSD card slot for up to 128GB of expandable storage. The phone also comes with a physical keyboard that supports 23 languages, including Bangla, Gujarati, Hindi, and Marathi.
The JioBharat J1 comes with two prepaid plans: a monthly plan priced at Rs 123, providing 0.5GB of data per day, 300 SMS per day, unlimited voice calls, and a 28-day validity, and an annual plan priced at Rs 1,234, offering the same features but with a validity of 336 days. Both plans come with free access to JioSaavn, JioTV, and JioCinema. The JioBharat J1, with its affordable price and feature set, is poised to make a significant impact in the feature phone market, expanding access to digital services for a wider range of users.
