John Nagel, a pillar of Hudson County cross country and track and field, passed away at 65. His coaching legacy spans six decades, leaving an indelible mark on St. Dominic Academy, where he guided his teams to an astounding 250 championships and mentored hundreds of loyal runners. Nagel’s passion for the sport was infectious, driving his athletes to excellence. Despite his own athleticism, he always credited his success to the talent and dedication of his team. Off the field, Nagel was a beloved figure, serving as a public address announcer for local sporting events and maintaining close relationships with his former runners. He embodied the spirit of sportsmanship, attending wakes and funerals of family members connected to his athletes. Nagel’s contributions to the sport were recognized with inductions into multiple Halls of Fame. He will be deeply missed by the St. Dominic Academy community and the countless lives he touched.
