The Indian fashion world mourns the loss of a true icon. Rohit Bal, renowned for his signature blend of traditional Indian aesthetics and modern sensibilities, breathed his last on Friday following a heart attack. He was 59 years old.

He infused a sense of timeless elegance and sophistication into his creations, captivating the hearts of fashion enthusiasts across the globe. His work gained immense popularity among celebrities and Bollywood stars, cementing his place as a leading force in the industry.
Bal’s journey in fashion began with a degree in History from St. Stephen’s College in New Delhi. He initially worked alongside his brother, Rajiv Bal, in their family’s export business before venturing out on his own in 1990. His independent label, Rohit Bal Design, quickly gained recognition, expanding its presence across India, the Middle East, and Europe. His flagship stores, located in major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, and Ahmedabad, served as testaments to his success and growing influence.

While known primarily for his exquisite clothing, Bal’s creative vision also extended to luxury jewelry, further demonstrating his versatility and artistic flair. In recent years, Bal had been battling health issues, but his passion for fashion never waned. He made a triumphant comeback in October 2024 with his latest collection at the Lakme Fashion Week X FDCI 2024 grand finale, leaving a lasting impression on the industry. His final show was graced by Bollywood actress Ananya Panday, who served as the showstopper.
