Renowned Native American Hoop Dancer to Headline Prestigious National Parks Symposium
The Western National Parks Association (WNPA) is thrilled to announce that Eric Michael Hernandez, a celebrated Native American hoop dancer, filmmaker, and public speaker, will be a keynote presenter at TerraSync 2025. This premium training symposium, designed for leaders and professionals in national parks and public lands management, will be held from June 24th to 26th, 2025, at the luxurious Westin La Paloma Resort and Spa in Tucson, Arizona.
Hernandez, a Lumbee Native American, brings a unique blend of artistry and cultural heritage to his captivating performances. Under the mentorship of his uncle, nine-time world champion hoop dancer Terry Godel, he mastered the intricate art of hoop dancing, infusing his performances with a personal flair and powerful storytelling. His smooth transitions and expressive style have taken him to global stages, including over 5,000 performances with Cirque du Soleil’s Totem, reaching more than 10 million people worldwide. His performance at the 91st Academy Awards in 2019 served as a powerful testament to the richness of Native American culture.
Beyond his mesmerizing dance performances, Hernandez is a prolific filmmaker. His recent short film, “Courage,” is a deeply personal exploration of self-discovery and the embracing of his Native identity through dance. His inspiring TEDx talk, “The Modern Native American Story” (2023), challenges stereotypes and encourages audiences to engage with Native teachings. As a cultural ambassador, he collaborates with industry leaders such as Cirque du Soleil, Red Bull, Virgin Voyages, Deloitte, and Nike, sharing his cultural insights and the artistry of hoop dance with a global audience.
Hernandez’s dedication to community outreach and his understanding of the profound connection between people and the natural world make him an ideal speaker for TerraSync 2025. His presence promises a unique and enriching interactive experience for attendees. The symposium is tailored to support emerging leaders, while welcoming professionals of all levels within the national parks and public lands sectors.
