Repsol Ends 30-Year Partnership with Honda MotoGP Team

After three decades of collaboration, Repsol and Honda have announced the end of their partnership in MotoGP, effective from the 2025 season. The Spanish oil company has been a cornerstone of Honda’s Grand Prix racing efforts since 1995, playing a pivotal role in their dominance during that period. Together, they have achieved a remarkable record: 15 premier class world championships, 10 premier class team championships, 183 premier class wins, and 455 premier class podiums.

The partnership has been a true collaboration, extending beyond mere sponsorship, with both companies striving for excellence in motorcycle racing. Repsol’s presence has been instrumental in propelling Honda to the forefront of the sport, witnessing the success of legendary riders like Mick Doohan, Valentino Rossi, and Marc Marquez.

However, in recent years, Honda’s performance has been on a downward trajectory. The departure of Marquez, who won his last MotoGP title in 2019, to Gresini Racing at the end of the 2023 season marked a turning point. Marquez’s exit was followed by Red Bull’s decision to end their sponsorship of the team.

With Honda struggling to achieve top-10 finishes this season with their current riders, Joan Mir and Luca Marini, the decision to end the partnership with Repsol seems inevitable. It remains to be seen how both parties will navigate the new landscape of MotoGP without each other, but this decision undoubtedly marks the end of an era in the sport.
