In a significant move, the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) has endorsed state Sen. John McGuire in the upcoming GOP congressional primary against Rep. Bob Good. The RJC’s decision stems from Good’s vote against a foreign aid package that allocated funds to Ukraine, Israel, and Gaza humanitarian aid.
The RJC, in a statement, strongly criticized Good’s vote, calling it a shameful act that abandons Israel in its fight for survival. The group emphasized the importance of providing military assistance to Israel, particularly in the wake of the recent conflict. Republican Jewish Coalition CEO Matt Brooks stated that Good’s vote exposed those who are not true friends of Israel.
Good, however, defended his decision, arguing that the aid package contained excessive spending that should have been paid for. He also expressed his unwavering support for Israel’s right to defend itself but emphasized the need for a smaller, paid-for bill. Good has faced criticism from other prominent Republican groups as well, including the Republican Main Street Partnership, which aims to oust him in the primary.
The primary election for Good’s seat will take place on June 18. Good’s district heavily supported former President Trump in 2020, but the outcome of the primary remains uncertain as McGuire seeks to capitalize on Good’s vote against foreign aid to Israel.
