Resident Evil 9: Everything We Know So Far

One of the longest-running franchises in gaming, Capcom’s Resident Evil has seen its share of ups and downs. However, Resident Evil 7 marked a turning point, revitalizing the series and bringing it back into the mainstream. The series has since split into new entries and a collection of excellent remakes. While revisiting these classics is enjoyable, it’s the new games that have fans truly excited, especially given the cliffhanger ending of Resident Evil 8.

Resident Evil 9 is the next installment in the core series, but information is as tightly guarded as the Umbrella Corporation’s secrets. Although an official release window remains elusive, we do know that Resident Evil 7 Director Koshi Nakanishi will return to direct the game. Some leaks suggest a potential release as early as 2025, but it’s wise to approach this information with caution. Considering Resident Evil 8 launched in 2021, a 2026 release seems more realistic.

Platform details are also shrouded in mystery. While unconfirmed, it’s safe to assume Resident Evil 9 will at least be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A release for last-gen consoles is possible but not confirmed.

As for visuals, not even a single screenshot of Resident Evil 9 has been released. Nakanishi himself offered a tantalizing glimpse, stating, “It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7], but I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can’t share any details just yet, but I hope you’re excited for the day I can.”

Spoiler Alert for Resident Evil 8: Ethan’s demise in the DLC of Resident Evil 8 necessitates a new protagonist for Resident Evil 9. Rose seems the most likely choice, but Chris is also a potential candidate.

Considering the director’s involvement and the gameplay style of recent entries, we can expect Resident Evil 9 to retain the first-person perspective introduced in Resident Evil 7. While the possibility of third-person and VR modes later down the line exists, it’s likely the game will launch as a first-person horror experience. Core elements like inventory management, puzzle solving, and battling terrifying monsters and bosses within unique locations are expected. The inclusion of new gameplay mechanics and twists is guaranteed, but specifics remain a mystery.

Preorder information is currently unavailable. Until a more definitive release date emerges, Capcom won’t be disclosing preorder options. However, we anticipate various editions, both physical and digital, to be available. Stay tuned for updates on this article.
