Retired Italian football icon Roberto Baggio found himself the victim of a terrifying ordeal during the Euro 2020 match between Italy and Spain. While watching the game at his home near the northern city of Vicenza, Baggio was confronted by five armed robbers who broke into his villa around 10 p.m.
According to Italian media reports, one of the robbers struck Baggio on the head with the butt of a gun when he attempted to intervene. The robbers then proceeded to lock the 57-year-old Baggio and his family in a room, allowing them to steal jewelry, watches, and cash.
After the thieves fled, Baggio managed to break down the door and call the police. He was transported to the hospital for treatment and received stitches for the head wound. Thankfully, his family members were unharmed.
Baggio’s illustrious career saw him play 56 games for the Italian national team, scoring 27 goals. However, his night was overshadowed by this traumatic incident. Meanwhile, Spain emerged victorious in the match, defeating Italy 1-0.
