A chilling incident of robbery has sent shockwaves through Delhi’s Prashant Vihar. A retired scientist, Shibu Singh, and his elderly wife, Nirmala, were held hostage at gunpoint by two men posing as courier boys on Friday, October 18th. The assailants, armed and brazen, made off with ₹2 crore in cash and jewelry from the couple’s home.
The incident occurred in the F Block of Prashant Vihar, where the retired scientist resides with his wife. The couple was in their home on Friday afternoon when two men, claiming to be delivery personnel, gained entry. Once inside, they swiftly took control, holding the couple hostage at gunpoint. Shibu Singh, attempting to resist, was assaulted by the assailants.
According to Shibu Singh’s statement, the accused fled with a substantial amount of cash and jewelry, estimated to be worth ₹2 crore. Following the terrifying ordeal, Shibu Singh contacted his son, who lives separately in Delhi, who in turn alerted the authorities. A PCR call was made around 2:30 pm, reporting the theft.
Delhi Police promptly arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. The couple was escorted to the hospital for medical examination. Over six police teams have been deployed to locate and apprehend the suspects. The police are meticulously examining CCTV footage from the area and gathering statements from neighbors and family members.
The police suspect the involvement of an insider in the robbery, given the meticulously planned nature of the crime. The police have stated that the CCTV footage has been collected and statements of neighbors and other family members have been recorded.
