The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has made public the dialogues between the on-field referee and the VAR during the match between Barcelona and Espanyol.
In the recordings, the lineman can be heard saying, “For me, it doesn’t go in at all, it’s a corner.” The VAR responds, “Let’s check it, wait a little, don’t let him serve.”
Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen is heard asking for explanations, and the referee replies, “We don’t have GOAL technology, we are going to wait for the VAR review.”
The VAR official states, “We are in a 360 (plane), ter Stegen’s body covers us, this one doesn’t work for me, this one doesn’t work either, this one doesn’t work either, this one doesn’t work either.”
The main referee, Mateu Lahoz, requests the VAR to calmly review the action. The VAR insists, “We don’t have any evidence that the ball went in, so we restarted the game with a corner kick.”
