Rex Airlines has taken flight, launching its inaugural services today and connecting Australia’s east and west coasts. The airline’s new routes signal a new era of competitive pricing and enhanced connectivity for travelers across the country. Flight ZL1212 from Perth to Adelaide departed at 11:55 am (AWST), followed by three additional services later today, including flights between Melbourne and Perth.
Rex Chairman, the Hon. John Sharp AM, expressed gratitude to the hundreds of passengers onboard these historic flights and encouraged Australians to embrace Rex’s new route offerings. “Give Rex a go,” urged Sharp, emphasizing the airline’s commitment to providing competitive pricing and enhanced connectivity across Australia.
The introduction of these new routes not only signifies increased accessibility between major cities but also promises to usher in a new era of affordability and convenience for travelers nationwide. Rex aims to redefine travel norms by bridging the geographical expanse between Australia’s eastern and western regions, making travel more accessible and affordable than ever before. “This is a milestone moment for Rex, and one our amazing staff have worked so hard towards since our first domestic service roared down the runway just a few years ago,” Mr Sharp said. “On behalf of Rex Airlines, I want to thank the three State Governments and each of the Airports and Tourism bodies who got behind us but especially, I wish to thank our passengers. “We are delighted you chose to fly with us today and we hope you and many more Australians will give Rex a go because we are delivering more competition, all you have to do is support us.”
This week, data from the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) revealed that Rex leads in domestic punctuality and has the lowest cancellation rate among major carriers. Confirming this, the Australian Airports Association reported last week that Rex’s initial domestic sale fares to Perth are the most affordable in nearly 15 years, with standard fares being the lowest in a decade.
To mark the launch of its inaugural services today, Rex has announced a new flash sale, offering one-way fares between Melbourne and Adelaide to Perth starting at $149*. Recognized as Australia’s Airline of the Year and winner of the Skytrax World Airline Awards, Rex operates Boeing 737s five days a week on the Melbourne-Perth route and National Jet Express (NJE) Embraer E-190 jets three days a week between Adelaide and Perth.
