The latest season of ‘Married at First Sight’ has barely concluded, with its finale airing on April 8th. Despite the reunion being less than a month ago, Richard Sauerman, a 62-year-old motivational speaker and former contestant, is already exposing the show’s alleged mistreatment of its participants, claiming that Channel Nine ‘ripped off’ contestants.
In an interview with Yahoo Australia’s podcast, Sauerman disclosed that he ‘lost a lot of money’ while on the show due to insufficient compensation. This was not an isolated incident, as other contestants faced similar financial losses. Sauerman emphasized that the show’s immense popularity and revenue should translate into fairer pay for its participants. He believes the current compensation structure, where contestants earn a mere $150 per day, is unacceptable, referring to it as ‘pocket money.’
Sauerman’s participation in the show resulted in a loss of work opportunities, leaving him without income for an extended period. He highlights that contestants are left financially vulnerable after the show’s conclusion, as they struggle to regain their previous work schedules. He firmly believes that contestants deserve more financial support from the show, given its substantial profits.
