Rinku Singh’s T20 World Cup Snub: KKR Management Blamed for Lack of Opportunities

Despite being a consistent performer for India in the Twenty20 format, Rinku Singh was surprisingly omitted from the 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. This decision sparked controversy among cricket enthusiasts due to Singh’s impressive track record.

Before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Singh had been a key figure for India in the shortest format. However, his chances with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) this season have been limited, which ultimately affected his selection for the mega ICC event.

As a finisher, Singh gained recognition for his power-hitting performances with KKR in the past couple of seasons. In 15 T20Is for India, the left-hander amassed 356 runs at an exceptional average of 89 and a strike rate of 176.23.

Unfortunately, this season he has not had many opportunities to bat for KKR. The team’s top-order has been in fine form, which has restricted Singh’s chances. In the 11 matches he played, Singh faced only 101 balls, scoring 148 runs at a strike rate of 146.53.

Former India cricketer Ashok Malhotra pointed the finger at KKR’s management for Singh’s T20 snub. Malhotra criticized their decision not to provide Singh with enough batting opportunities, which he believes has affected his form and ultimately cost him a place in the World Cup squad.

Despite Singh’s recent struggles, Malhotra believes he deserved to be included in the main squad due to his match-winning abilities. He highlighted Singh’s talent as a finisher and his ability to bat in the late order. However, Malhotra acknowledges that the selectors ultimately made the decision to include Singh in the reserves.

Singh’s exclusion from the main squad is a disappointment for the player and his fans. Nevertheless, he has shown his potential in the past and will be looking to regain his form in future opportunities.
