Rivian Automotive, the electric vehicle startup, has taken its focus on adventure-driven driving to a new level with the launch of a travel kitchen designed specifically for its R1 vehicle owners. Priced at $1,400, the portable kitchen boasts a fold-out two-burner induction cooktop that can be powered by the R1’s battery or any standard 120-volt power source with 15 amperes of current.
This travel kitchen is not just a convenient cooking solution, it’s engineered for seamless integration with Rivian’s R1 vehicles. The cooktop unfolds onto the tailgates of both the R1T truck and R1S SUV, providing a stable surface for meal preparation. When not in use, it conveniently stows away in the R1T’s gear tunnels or the R1S’s trunk.
Rivian has put its meticulous engineering standards to work on the travel kitchen, ensuring its durability and functionality. “We applied the same rigorous standards used to test, develop, and build our vehicles to our Travel Kitchen,” said Lindsey Cross, Rivian Staff Mechanical Engineer of Adventure Products.
Beyond the cooktop, the travel kitchen comes equipped with a storage bag to keep everything organized, hangout lights for ambiance, and a sturdy surface for meal prep and a food-safe cutting board. Its portability and ease of setup make it ideal for preparing anything from quick snacks to full meals, whether you’re on an off-road adventure or simply enjoying a picnic.
While designed for Rivian vehicles, the travel kitchen can also be used with any other vehicle or even a table if access to power is available. This versatility expands its appeal beyond just Rivian owners.
The launch of this travel kitchen is another example of Rivian’s commitment to enriching the driving experience for its customers. This new addition complements the company’s focus on adventure and outdoor activities, further solidifying its position as a leader in the electric vehicle market. Rivian recently launched the second generation of R1 vehicles with several hardware improvements and a redesigned software experience. The company also plans to begin production of its lower-priced R2 SUV in 2026, priced around $45,000.
