Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia’s innovative digital airline, has taken a significant step towards its sustainability goals by launching an electric bus fleet for employee transportation. This initiative underscores the airline’s commitment to embracing all 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, following its recent pledge to the UN Global Compact.
The new electric bus fleet, a collaboration with the National Transportation Solutions Company (NTSC), a division of Petromin Corporation, and TAM-Europe, a company known for its digital solutions promoting sustainable public transport, will enhance the daily commutes of Riyadh Air’s staff and aircrew throughout Riyadh. This move is part of the airline’s broader strategy to reduce its environmental impact.
The launch event was attended by notable figures including Tony Douglas, CEO of Riyadh Air; Kalyana Sivagnanam, Group CEO of Petromin Corporation; and Gary B. Flom, CEO of Petromin National Transportation Solutions Company. “Every effort we make to champion sustainable practices counts in our collective fight against climate change,” said Tony Douglas, CEO of Riyadh Air.
The introduction of the electric bus fleet is a tangible example of Riyadh Air’s commitment to sustainable practices. The airline’s efforts to reduce its environmental footprint extend beyond employee transportation, encompassing various aspects of its operations. This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to Riyadh Air’s overall sustainability goals, further solidifying its position as a responsible and environmentally conscious airline.
