Roadchef Partners with Allye Energy to Enhance EV Charging Infrastructure

Roadchef, a motorway service operator, has announced a partnership with Allye Energy, a clean-tech start-up specializing in smart battery technology. This collaboration marks a significant step towards enhancing EV charging infrastructure and promoting sustainable energy practices in the transportation sector.

As part of this partnership, Roadchef will receive two MAX BESS units for installation at two of its major grid-constrained locations in May and June. These units will alleviate constraints and improve energy management across Roadchef’s sites, catering to the growing demand for EV charging stations.

The deployment of the MAX BESS units aligns with Roadchef’s mission to make Britain’s roads safer and greener. The company places great importance on zero emissions and actively invests in infrastructure to facilitate the nationwide transition to electric vehicles.

Allye, on the other hand, has successfully completed its fourth and final pre-production MAX, incorporating numerous design improvements following extensive trials. Since June 2023, the company has implemented a comprehensive engineering development program, leading to significant advancements in the integration of second-use electric vehicle battery packs.

These enhancements were driven by the application of automotive process and development, ensuring that the MAX meets industry standards in performance, safety, and reliability. Allye’s CEO, Jonathan Carrier, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.

He said, “Our journey since June 2023 has been one of intense development, learning, and deployment. The completion of our fourth MAX BESS and our partnership with Roadchef are not just milestones but also a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team of Energy Hustlers.”

Allye has now completed the construction of its fourth and final MAX system, which features a host of design improvements identified during a rigorous 12-month development and testing process. This approach has significantly enhanced the system’s overall performance, safety features, manufacturing ease, and maintenance protocols.

Each generation of MAX BESS has built on the learnings from its predecessors, resulting in a high-performance and robust system that meets the expectations of major commercial and industrial customers. The partnership between Roadchef and Allye is expected to lead to widespread commercial adoption of the MAX as the most sustainable, affordable, and innovative BESS, fully engineered, built, and delivered in the UK using repurposed batteries from UK electric vehicles.

This collaboration marks a positive step towards decarbonizing the transportation sector and promoting sustainable energy practices. As the demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, partnerships like these are crucial in creating a cleaner and greener future for transportation.
