Roadside Attractions has acquired the distribution rights to ‘Exhibiting Forgiveness,’ an award-winning drama that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. The film is set for a fall theatrical release and is expected to be a major awards contender.
Directed by Titus Kaphar in his feature directorial debut, ‘Exhibiting Forgiveness’ follows Tarrell Rodin (André Holland), an admired American painter whose successful career is derailed by an unexpected visit from his estranged father, La’Ron (John Earl Jelks), a recovering addict desperate to reconcile.
Tarrell’s mother, Joyce (Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor), a pious woman with a profound spirituality, hopes that Tarrell can open his heart to forgiveness and give them all another chance at being a family. Tarrell and La’Ron learn that forgetting might be a greater challenge than forgiving.
The film boasts an all-star cast that includes André Holland, Andra Day, John Earl Jelks, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor. Kaphar’s lauded 2017 TED talk clocked 2.8M views, and his work is included in the collections of prestigious museums worldwide.
Roadside Attractions Co-Presidents Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff praised Kaphar’s storytelling abilities and the film’s exceptional performances. Kaphar expressed his excitement about collaborating with Roadside Attractions and his belief that the film will find a wide audience.
‘Exhibiting Forgiveness’ is produced by Stephanie Allain, Derek Cianfrance, Jamie Patricof, and Sean Cotton. Roadside Attractions negotiated the deal with UTA Independent Film Group on behalf of the filmmakers. The film is expected to be a major awards contender during the upcoming awards season.
