Rockets Fired, Landmine Explodes Amidst Re-Polling in Kohlu

Unidentified individuals launched rocket attacks and detonated a landmine in Kohlu, Balochistan, as re-polling commenced in four polling stations within the PB-9 constituency. The incidents disrupted the voting process at the impacted polling station in Nasao, with officials unable to access the location due to security concerns.

Levies sources confirmed that a rocket was fired from an undisclosed location near a polling station in Nasao, although no casualties were reported. Separately, a landmine explosion occurred on Nasao road in the Sangyali area of Barkhan, damaging a tribal leader’s vehicle but leaving him unharmed.

The re-polling process, initially scheduled from 8am to 4pm, was marred by violence. According to the District Commissioner, a political party worker was killed in a shooting at an election camp on Tuesday. Security forces, including the Frontier Corps and Levies, were deployed to ensure the safety of election staff and polling agents.

Tensions had escalated in the days leading up to the re-polling, with reports of heavy firing from unknown armed individuals near polling stations in Madrasah Yar Khan in Nasao. The District Returning Officer attributed the unrest to the arrival of Pakistan Peoples Party candidates and supporters at the polling station.

Amidst the violence, a protest was held in the district to voice concerns over the alleged deployment of biased polling staff in the constituency. However, a PPP leader, Mir Naseebullah, later announced the end of the sit-in following assurances from the Frontier Corps.
