Rogich Middle School Wins Spring Vocabulary Bowl Championship

Continuing the triumph from the fall competition, Rogich Middle School has emerged victorious in the spring Vocabulary Bowl, a nationwide competition for students from kindergarten through high school. With 120 students participating, the school’s team showcased their exceptional vocabulary skills in the Division I middle school division, garnering an impressive 35,229 words. This remarkable achievement ranked them as the seventh best out of all schools in the country.

The Vocabulary Bowl is a highly regarded competition that encourages students to expand their vocabulary, enhance their literacy skills, and excel academically. This biannual event is organized by IXL Learning’s Vocabulary.com and attracts participation from schools throughout the United States and Canada.

In the spring competition, the Rogich Rough Riders displayed their mastery of 35,229 words, demonstrating a profound understanding of each word’s meaning. They achieved this by actively engaging in various activities on Vocabulary.com, where they answered multiple questions on each word until they could prove they had mastered it. Each mastered word contributed a point to their school’s overall score.

The competition’s focus extends beyond mere memorization, challenging students to genuinely comprehend the nuances of each word they encounter. In the 2023-2024 academic year, the fall Vocabulary Bowl will take place from October 1st to November 30th. To join the competition, schools can register on the official website.
