Rohini Acharya, the daughter of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, is actively campaigning in the Saran Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar ahead of the fifth phase of the polls. She is facing off against the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) candidate, Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
During an interview with The Hindu amidst her campaign, Ms. Acharya raised questions regarding the BJP’s criticism of the RJD for alleged ‘Parivarvaad’ (family politics). She highlighted that the BJP itself has faced no such scrutiny, implying double standards in the allegations.
Addressing the comments made by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhry, who alleged she received a ticket solely due to donating a kidney to her father, Ms. Acharya dismissed them as baseless. She also responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s characterization of Lalu Yadav’s regime as ‘Jungle Raj,’ emphasizing that such labels were politically motivated.
Furthermore, Acharya addressed Nitish Kumar’s criticism of lacking job opportunities in Bihar, stating that her focus, if elected, would be on creating employment and addressing the concerns of the people of Saran.
The interview provided insights into Ms. Acharya’s campaign strategy and her views on the key issues being debated in the upcoming elections. She expressed confidence in her ability to represent the people of Saran and work towards their betterment.
