India captain Rohit Sharma has voiced his unwavering support for Virat Kohli, suggesting that the star batsman’s recent run drought could come to an end in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa. Kohli’s struggles continued in the semifinal against England, where he was dismissed for a mere nine runs. Despite this, Rohit remains confident in Kohli’s abilities, emphasizing his vast experience and exceptional talent.
“Virat is a quality player,” Rohit said. “Any player can go through that. We understand his class. When you have played for 15 years, form is never a problem. He’s probably saving it for the final.”
Kohli, who has scored only 75 runs in seven innings this tournament at an average of 10.71, is seeking to regain his form in the final. Meanwhile, Rohit has been in stellar form, amassing 248 runs, including three fifties, at an average of over 41 in the tournament. His 57 runs against England, following a blistering 92 against Australia, were crucial in India’s 171-7 total.
India’s dominant performance saw England crumble to 103 all out, with spinners Kuldeep Yadav (3-19) and Axar Patel (3-23) decimating the opposition. The victory secured India’s place in the final against South Africa, a clash of the tournament’s two undefeated teams.
“We’ve been very calm,” Rohit said, reflecting on India’s composure throughout the tournament. “We understand the occasion of the final. It’s important we stay composed because that helps you make good decisions. We have been very steady, calm, and that has been the key for us. We’ll try our best. All I can hope is to put in another good show come the final.”
