A video shared by Kolkata Knight Riders sparked speculation about Rohit Sharma’s future with the Mumbai Indians. In the video, Sharma was heard conversing with Kolkata’s assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, saying, “Everything is changing one by one. It depends on them, I don’t care about that.” This sparked rumors that Sharma may be leaving the Mumbai Indians after the current IPL season.
Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag expressed his belief that Sharma may not be retained by the Mumbai Indians due to his poor performance. According to Sehwag, apart from Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav, none of the Mumbai Indians players are guaranteed a spot in the team after the mega auction next season. This also raises questions about the future of Hardik Pandya, the current Mumbai Indians captain.
“If you get Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Salman Khan for one movie, it doesn’t mean it will be a hit film. You have to perform. There has to be something in the script. Look at these big names… they all have to perform. Rohit scored one hundred, but it was in a losing cause. In the remaining matches, when did he perform? Ishan Kishan has not gone beyond the powerplay the entire season. So the only two players who are certain are Bumrah and Suryakumar. If they have a third and a fourth, we’ll see,” Sehwag said.
Rohit Sharma has scored only 330 runs in the ongoing IPL season, including a century but also a forgettable run of just 34 runs in the last five innings which comprises four single-digit scores. His poor form and the Mumbai Indians’ struggles throughout the season have raised doubts about his future with the franchise.
