Roku Launches Free Sports Channel with MLB Games, Formula E Races, and More

Roku is launching a dedicated free sports channel, aptly named Roku Sports Channel, which will aggregate all of its free sports content into a single app. Launching on August 12th, this channel is separate from the Sports section Roku introduced in 2022, which focused on aggregating live events across various services.

The Roku Sports Channel promises a curated, always-on experience, offering a diverse selection of premium sports content that’s free to Roku Channel users. This includes live Major League Baseball games, along with MLB Sunday Leadoff, The Rich Eisen Show, GMFB: Overtime, live races from Formula E, and Roku’s own sports originals. Basketball fans can catch NBA G League games, and the channel will also feature the Roku original WNBA documentary Renee Montgomery: A Radical Act.

While not expected to rival the depth of ESPN, Roku Sports Channel offers a valuable resource for sports enthusiasts seeking free access to a variety of content. The channel will be available only in the U.S. and can be accessed on any Roku streaming player or Roku TV without requiring an additional subscription. This move underscores Roku’s commitment to expanding its sports offering, making it easier for users to discover and enjoy free, high-quality sports programming.
