Roma has strengthened their goalkeeping ranks with the signing of Australian international Mathew Ryan. The 32-year-old joins the Serie A club on a one-year deal with an option for a further year, providing backup to first-choice goalkeeper Mile Svilar. Ryan, who boasts 93 caps for Australia and has featured in the last three World Cups, arrives as a free agent after being released by Eredivisie outfit AZ Alkmaar at the end of last season.
His arrival adds experience and international pedigree to the Roma squad as they prepare for the new season. Daniele De Rossi’s team will be looking to improve on their sixth-place finish last season and will be aiming for a strong start to their 2024/25 campaign. Their season kicks off on August 18th with a trip to Cagliari.
With Ryan’s arrival, Roma’s goalkeeping department is well equipped to handle the demands of the upcoming season. The experienced Australian will provide competition and support for Svilar, ensuring a strong foundation for the team’s ambitions.
